Sunfire Solstice Ritual

SUMMER SOLSTICE Litha, also known as Midsummer or the Summer Solstice, is a celebration of the sun's peak power and the abundance of nature. There is a panoply of culture-specific observations for this magickal time. My favorite way to observe the solstice is with a bonfire / firepit. A gathering of friends while you share laughs and watch the sunset is a nice and modern way to pay homage to the summer sun.

Here's a ritual that combines the joyous energy of Litha with the enjoyment of a summer cocktail: "Sunfire Celebration: A Litha Ritual with Summer Libation" Materials Needed:

  • A small cauldron or fire-safe container

  • White or yellow candle

  • Seasonal flowers and herbs (such as sunflowers, lavender, chamomile, or rose petals)

  • Your favorite summer cocktail or beverage - orange/citrus is especially nice

  • Fresh citrus slices (lemon, lime, or orange)

  • Optional: A piece of citrine or sunstone (cleansed and charged)

  • Outdoor space or a well-ventilated area

Instructions: Find a peaceful outdoor spot where you can safely light a small fire or use a fire pit. Alternatively, choose a well-ventilated area indoors. Set up your materials, placing the cauldron or fire-safe container in the center. Arrange the seasonal flowers and herbs around the cauldron, creating a vibrant and fragrant circle. Cleansing and Invocation: Light the white or yellow candle and place it beside the cauldron. Take a moment to center yourself and connect with the energy of Litha, feeling the warmth of the sun and the abundance of nature. Speak an invocation or prayer, expressing gratitude for the sun's power, the bountiful energy of summer, and your intentions for the ritual. Igniting the Sunfire: If you have a fire pit or outdoor fire-safe space, light a small fire in the cauldron, carefully using natural fire-starting materials. If you're indoors or unable to create a fire, you can symbolically represent the sun's fire by visualizing its energy radiating from the candle flame. Empowering the Cocktail: Hold your cocktail or beverage, visualizing the vibrant energy of the sun infusing it. Add fresh citrus slices to the bottle or glass, symbolizing the zest and vitality of summer. If you have a citrine or sunstone, place it near the bottle to further enhance the solar energy within. Affirmations and Intentions: Take a moment to reflect on your intentions for the summer season, whether they involve personal growth, joy, abundance, or love. Speak your affirmations and intentions aloud, infusing them with the energy of the sunfire. Celebration and Sip: Raise your drink towards the sunfire, offering it as a libation to the sun's energy. Take a sip, allowing the flavors to dance on your tongue, and visualize the sun's energy infusing every cell of your being. Gratitude and Closing: Express gratitude for the sun's blessings, the abundance of the season, and the experience of the ritual. Extinguish the candle and the fire (if applicable), ensuring they are safely extinguished. Leave the seasonal flowers and herbs as an offering to the earth, or compost them afterward. Remember, rituals are personal expressions of spirituality, and you can adapt this ritual to suit your beliefs and preferences. Enjoy the celebration of Litha, the summer solstice, and the delightful experience of being in harmony with the sun's energy. Blessed be!
