Lammas 2023

ritualcapecod

August is upon us and that means tomorrow is Lammas. This ancient festival, also known as Lughnasadh, is a time to honor the bountiful first harvest of the year and bask in the magic of the changing seasons.

Lammas is a time to celebrate the first harvest of the season and indulge in the delicious berries, breads, and beers.

Arguably one of my favorite holidays as a pagan.

Lammas traces its roots back to ancient Celtic and Pagan traditions. The name "Lammas" comes from the Old English term "hlaf-mas," meaning "loaf mass."

It was a time to give thanks for the first wheat harvest and offer loaves of bread in gratitude. In Celtic lore, Lammas was dedicated to the god Lugh, the master of skills and the harvest, and it was a time to celebrate his talents and gifts.

Lammas is the perfect excuse for us witches to indulge in our culinary prowess. Whip up some hearty bread, bake fruit pies, roast veggies, and infuse your dishes with magical intent. Imagine a table filled with laughter and full bellies, for good food nurtures not just the body but the soul.

As the first golden grains sway in the breeze, dance into the spirit of Lammas with joy and abandon! Take a stroll through a sunlit meadow or dance beneath the moonlit sky. Let the energy of the earth's bounty fill your heart, connecting you to the vibrant cycle of life and the dance of the seasons.

Embrace your inner spell-weaver and craft charms and spells to harness the abundant energy of Lammas. Create prosperity charms using wheat stalks or design a spell to manifest your desires like a well-timed harvest.

One of the joys of being an eclectic witch is the freedom to blend old customs with modern twists. Some ways to celebrate include: Joining us for our bake swap and picnic (see events above), host a party, play traditional games with a magical twist, or create a "Harvest Vision Board" for the months ahead. There are no limits to our creativity.

As we celebrate the first harvest and the changing seasons, let us cherish the bounty that Mother Earth provides and embrace the laughter and camaraderie of fellow witches.

May your Lammas be filled with abundant magic, delicious feasts, and laughter that echoes through the golden fields and beyond!

Blessed be!
