NIGHT OF HECATE: 11/16

On the night of November 16th, practitioners of ancient traditions and modern witchcraft alike honor the enigmatic goddess Hecate during what is known as the Night of Hecate.

This revered night celebrates the power, wisdom, and guidance of Hecate, the Greek goddess of magic, crossroads, the moon, and witchcraft.

Hecate holds a complex and multifaceted role in Greek mythology. She is often depicted as a triple goddess, representing the maiden, mother, and crone aspects of the divine feminine. This trinity embodies her connection to various phases of life, transformation, and the cycles of the moon.

Observing the Night of Hecate involves various rituals, offerings, and invocations. At crossroads, altars, or places of significance, devotees light candles or torches to invoke her presence. Offerings such as incense, garlic, honey, and cakes are made to honor her and seek her blessings. Some also perform divination rituals or meditations to connect with her wisdom and guidance.

A Spell to Invoke Hecate's Blessings:

Materials Needed:

  • Three black candles

  • An offering (such as honey, cake, or a symbolic item)

  • A piece of paper and a pen

Instructions:

Set up your altar or sacred space, placing the three black candles in a triangular formation.

Light the candles, invoking Hecate by saying, "Hecate, goddess of the crossroads, I call upon thee. Hear my voice and be present here tonight."

Write your desires, goals, or requests on the paper. Fold it and place it on the altar.

Offer the chosen item to Hecate, speaking your intentions aloud.

Meditate or focus your thoughts on your desires, visualizing them coming to fruition.

Thank Hecate for her presence and blow out the candles, envisioning your intentions being sent out into the universe.

A Hymn to Hecate:

Goddess Hecate, of shadows deep,

Three-formed mistress, in darkness keep.

Maiden, mother, crone combined,

Your mystic presence, vast, entwined.

Queen of crossroads, where spirits roam,

Keeper of secrets, guide us home.

In the moon's glow, your torches gleam,

In chants and spells, your power streams.

O Hecate, hear our plea so pure,

Grant us wisdom, strong and sure.

In rituals’ dance and whispered rites,

We seek your aid on darkest nights.

Hecate, guardian, by our side,

In your grace, may we abide.

Your magic flows, our hearts enthrall,

In your name, we stand tall.

The Night of Hecate offers a moment to connect with ancient energies and seek the wisdom of the goddess. Whether through rituals, spells, or hymns, this occasion invites individuals to embrace the mystical and honor the depth of Hecate's influence in their lives.
