✨ THIS WEEK IN MAGICK ✨
January 5th - 11th, 2026

We're in the Waning Gibbous phase this week, coming down from the Wolf Moon that peaked Saturday morning. The moon is still bright and working its way toward the Last Quarter on January 10th. This is release energy: the time to let momentum carry away what the Full Moon illuminated.
But the real magic this week isn't just lunar. January 6th sits at a crossroads of traditions. In Christian observance, it's Epiphany, Twelfth Night, the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas. In the West, it honors the Magi's visit. In the East, it commemorates baptism in the Jordan. But strip away the Christian overlay and you find something older: a threshold day. A day of manifestation. A day when what's hidden becomes visible.
The number twelve has always been sacred, twelve zodiac signs, twelve lunar months, twelve days between solstice and the old calendar's new year. Twelfth Night marks the final exhale of the winter celebrations before the return to ordinary time. It's a liminal moment, and liminal moments are powerful regardless of the framework you drape over them.
The folk magic is what survived: wassailing orchards to wake the trees, chalking doorways with symbols of protection, hiding beans in cakes for divination, blessing thresholds with salt and intention. In Greece, they throw crosses into icy water, but the core isn't Christian. It's purification, blessing, the power of cold water to shock the system awake.
WORK WITH IT:
On January 5th or 6th, work threshold and manifestation magic.
This is a revealing day: what needs to be made visible?
What's been hidden that's ready to show itself?
Mark your thresholds. Use chalk, salt, ash, or oil and seal your doorways with protective symbols: pentacles, runes, sigils, bindrunes, whatever you work with. As you mark each threshold, speak your intention aloud: This house is blessed. This boundary is sealed. Only what serves may enter here. Let it sit until it naturally fades.
Bean divination. Bake or buy a small round cake and hide dried beans, coins, or charms inside, each one carries a different omen. Bean = growth, coin = wealth, iron nail = protection, small key = new opportunities. Cut the cake, see who gets what, read the signs.
Wassail the land. If you have trees (or even houseplants), pour cider or mead at their roots and sing to them. Tell them to wake, to grow strong, to bear fruit. The old wassail songs worked because they were asking the land to thrive, not passively hoping.
That's magick.
Hindu observance: Sankashti Chaturthi falls on January 6th, a monthly fasting day dedicated to Ganesha, the elephant-headed remover of obstacles. Practitioners fast from sunrise until moonrise (so you're working with the moon's appearance, not a clock), then break fast only after sighting the moon and offering prayers. The traditional offering is modak (sweet dumplings), durva grass (a specific sacred grass), and red flowers. You can also offer red sandalwood paste, incense, and lamps. The practice is about deliberate removal. Fasting clears the body, moonrise marks the threshold, Ganesha clears the path. If you've been stuck, blocked, or hitting walls, this is your day to petition for that obstacle to move. Light a lamp, offer something sweet, and ask clearly for what needs to shift.
TOOLS FOR THE JOURNEY:
Frankincense and myrrh for purification and blessing work. White, gold, or black candles depending on your intention. Chalk, salt, ash, or oil for threshold marking. Dried beans, coins, or small charms for divination. Cider or mead for wassailing. For Ganesha work: modak or any sweet offering, red flowers, incense, and oil lamps. We've got Ganesha statues, blessing oils, protection incense, and all the supplies for boundary and devotional work.
The veil lifts. What manifests?
