A sea witch is a practitioner of witchcraft who focuses on working with the energies, elements, and symbolism associated with the sea and the ocean.
Sea witches often have a deep connection and affinity for the ocean, its creatures, and the power of water.
They draw inspiration from the sea's vastness, mystery, and transformative qualities in their spiritual and magical practices.
Sea witches may incorporate various elements into their craft, such as seashells, saltwater, seaweed, and other ocean-related items.
They may work with deities or spirits associated with the sea, such as sea gods or goddesses, merfolk, or mythical creatures. They may also incorporate ocean-themed rituals, spells, and divination methods into their practice, and often have an affinity for the moon and tides.
Sea witches are often associated with certain qualities, such as intuition, adaptability, emotional depth, and a connection to the ebb and flow of life. They may seek to harness the elemental power of water for healing, purification, protection, or manifestation purposes.
Additionally, sea witches may work with ocean-related folklore and incorporate maritime traditions into their practice.
A spell to ask for a Mermaid's Blessing
Nantucket Sound and Chatham Waters are said to be places where mermaids frequent. If you wish to be a sea witch, you can ask the mermaids for a blessing.
You will need:
An offering for the mermaid - Fruits, a crystal, a letter of appreciation
A white or blue candle that you can hold safely while lit. (optional, depending on the wind)
A quiet place at the beach (preferably Nantucket Sound side) where you can wade into the water
Pack a nice lunch or dinner and head to the beach
Spend your time appreciating the sand and sea, do some meditating, yoga, swim, build a sandcastle, explore tidepools, etc.
At any point in the day that feels right, prepare to do your ritual in a way that resonates with you (breathwork, grounding, etc.) get your offering ready, light your candle (optional), and wade into the water as deep as you are comfortable. you can also perform the ritual on the shore if you are unable to get in the water.
Say the following:
"Maidens fair of fin and scale, star of every sailor's tale
I only ask one thing of thee, a blessing from the sacred sea
If my offering finds you well, there's one way I can surely tell
To see a mermaid in the waves, a sea witch for the rest of days."
Throw your offering as far as you can out into the water. Please do not throw trash or harmful items into the sea.
Stare out into the ocean, scanning for any sight and sign of a mermaid. This could take a while. Please be safe as you do so.
If you see something be sure to say thank you.
Enjoy the rest of your time at the beach.
Note: While this wont "lock you" into a sea witch path it is a bit of a pact with the ocean and it's keepers. You may wish to change your path at some point, but consider doing a farewell ritual and offering to the mermaids before you do.
