Ancient Spell to Helios

ritualcapecod

In honor of the solstice, and because it's been a bit since I've included a spell in these newsletters, I thought we'd try something a little different.

The Greek Magical Papyri (aka PGM) is an ancient treasure-trove of spells, hymns, and more, to a plethora of gods and goddesses, including Helios, the Greek God/Titan of the sun.

(P.S. Each copy of the PGM we sell comes with a free consultation!)

Below find a simple but powerful recitation ritual from the PGM that was used to secure favor, and ensure victory by evoking the power of Helios.

At first, PGM sorcery can seem a bit overwhelming or like the spells might not fit into a modern practice, but with a little imagination and tweaking, for modern witchy purposes this spell could easily be used to ask the summer sun for simple protection and blessings.

I've changed up the wording a little bit to make it flow a bit better, lean more into some solar imagery, and to get specific about the solar deity upon which we're calling.

The sections in yellow can either be omitted, or changed to suit your needs.

PGM XXXVI 211

Anoint your 3rd eye with an oil, preferably solar in nature, and face the sun

-Say the invocation to the sun (Helios) 7 times, -Best performed at sunrise, or when the sun is at it's peak

-Optional: You may want to create an altar, or perhaps give offerings to the sun (incense, summer fruits, flowers, bread, honey, libations, etc)

Rejoice with me, Lord Helios!

You who does rise over the West Wind and the World!

You who are set over the East Wind and the World!

for whom all the Gods serve as Body-Guards

at Your Good Hour and on Your Good Day*,

You who are the God of the Sun, of Warmth and Light,

the Crown of the Inhabited World,

You who arise from the Abyss,

You who Each Day rise a Young Man and set an Old Man.

HARPENKNOUPHI BRINTANTE'NO'PHRI BRISSKYLMAS AROURZORBOROBA MESINTRIPHI NIPTOUMI CHMOUMMAO'PHI

(do not worry too much about pronunciation of the above. do the best you can. you may also choose to leave the magical names out if it's too difficult)

I implore You, Lord Helios, do not allow me

to be Over-Thrown,

to be Plotted Against,

to receive Dangerous Drugs,

to go into Exile,

to fall upon Hard Times.

[you may replace the above italics with your own do-not-wants]

Rather, I ask to obtain and receive from You

Life, Health, Reputation,

Wealth, Influence, Strength,

Success, Charm,

Favor with all Men and all Women,

Victory over all Men and all Women.

[you may replace the above italics with your own intentions or blessings]

Yes, Lord Helios,

ABLANATHANALBA AKRAMMACHAMARI PEPHNA PHO'ZA PHNEBENNOUNI NAACHTHIP OUNORBA

(again, do not worry about pronunciation, and you may leave these out if you wish)

accomplish this Matter which I want,

by means of Your Power.

And So It Is.

*The "good hour" and "good day" likely refer to noon on the summer solstice, but this spell can be performed at any time. My apologies for the belated nature of this spell.
